Senior Fellow Ana Paula Tostes Analyzes EU-Brazil and EU-Eastern Europe Relations

The Senior Fellow of the Brazilian Center for International Relations (CEBRI)'s Europe Program, Ana Paula Tostes, published an article on Brazil-European Union relations in the Folha de S. Paulo newspaper. In it, she highlighted the tax mechanisms that the EU intends to apply to countries that do not reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which are expected to severely impact the Brazilian export market.

"It is in the interest of the Brazilian export sectors to carry out a radical transformation in their energy models and in the management of resources and technology, in order for Brazil to be able to stick to its COP26 commitments and to stay in line with global commitments. Brazilian export sectors that depend on trade with the EU will need adaptations and investments to guarantee the already existing export flow."

Recently, Tostes published the article "Europeanization to the Eastern Borders: Moldova's EU Rapprochement" in the Revista Brasileira de Política Internacional. The article analyzes the EU's promotion of so-called "Europeanization" in the form of the transfer of values, ideas, norms, and economic cooperation with Eastern European countries that are not part of the EU.

In the article, Tostes examines the case of Moldova, a country that became the focus of a dispute for influence between the EU and Russia. The country was part of the Soviet Union until 1991 and to this day has strong links with Russia, with Russian being one of the official languages and Putin one of the most popular political figures among the inhabitants of the region.
