CEBRI Talks: G20 Horizons | Eduardo Paes

The new episode of the CEBRI podcast dedicated to the G20 is now live, produced in partnership with the Rio de Janeiro City Hall.

In the sixth episode, journalist Leila Sterenberg interviews the Mayor in the City of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, facing the opportunities and challenges that cross Rio's path when the city hosts the G20 summit in 2024. The conversation ranges from sustainable development and energy transition on the G20 agenda to issues of public safety, education and urban mobility.

During the conversation, Eduardo Paes highlighted the exchange of knowledge between cities and their local actions in the global transformation, and emphasized collaboration with governments to implement initiatives to mitigate climate change. The Mayor mentioned the challenges and legacies of the major events hosted by the city of Rio de Janeiro, such as the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics, which left an outstanding legacy by positioning the city of Rio as a decision-making center and as a Brazilian landmark abroad, boosting tourism and economic development.

He also addressed the prospects of the G20 Engagement Groups in mobilizing civil society and the opportunities for experts and opinion formers to meet to exchange ideas and formulate public policies.

CEBRI Talks: G20 Horizons is a podcast that hosts academics, civil society experts, third-sector representatives, and private sector professionals who are immersed in G20 Engagement Groups to discuss topics in the national agenda and to be addressed during the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro in 2024.
