Ambassador Marcos Caramuru, CEBRI’s International Advisory Board Member and former Brazilian Ambassador to China (2016–2018), welcomed David Lubin, Senior Research Fellow in the Global Economy and Finance Programme at Chatham House, for a two-part conversation aimed at fostering analysis and the systematic monitoring of issues relevant to Brazil’s development and the country’s international engagement, particularly those related to China and its opportunities.

In part one, the conversation focused on the main directions of the Chinese economy and their impacts on trade partners and the global economy, exploring concepts such as “involution,” the outcomes of the Two Sessions, and future prospects.

In the second part of the conversation, topics included the challenge of overcapacity and its effects on Chinese domestic consumption, the progress of the internationalization of the renminbi (RMB), and a comparative perspective between the Chinese and American economies. The growing role of China in exporting strategic technologies, including artificial intelligence, and its implications for global value chains was also highlighted.

The interview is part of the China Analysis Group, sponsored by the Bank BOCOM BBM. Since 2017, the China Analysis Group has promoted debates, meetings, and landmark publications on Sino-Brazilian relations.
