CEBRI and China Policy Host Debates in São Paulo to Generate Strategic Insights on Brazil–China Cooperation

On September 29, the Brazilian Center for International Relations (CEBRI) convened two events in São Paulo featuring Philippa Jones, Founding Partner and Editor-in-Chief at China Policy.
At a timely moment marking the 51st anniversary of diplomatic relations between Brazil and China, the discussions aimed to strengthen key areas of cooperation highlighted in the Joint Declaration on the Deepening of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

In the field of Trade and Innovation, CEBRI and China Policy organized the seminar “Can the People’s Republic of China Become the ‘Great Power’ Xi Envisions?” in partnership with Insper Agro Global and BOCOM BBM.


The debate examined the evolution of China’s industrial policy, with emphasis on strategic sectors such as industrial artificial intelligence. In addition to Philippa Jones, participants included Julia Dias Leite, CEO at CEBRI; Larissa Wachholz, Senior Fellow at CEBRI and Partner at Vallya Participações; Marcos Jank, Trustee at CEBRI and Coordinator at Insper Agro Global; Marcelo Junqueira, Vice President of the Brazilian Rural Society (SRB); and the Executive President at ABIOVE.

The event received institutional support from Bayer, Cargill, Itaú BBA, and Rumo.

In the afternoon, CEBRI, China Policy, and the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (FIESP) held the session “Brazil–China Partnership for a Low-Carbon Industrial Agenda”, which sought to foster dialogue, explore opportunities for bilateral cooperation, and identify concrete pathways to strengthen industrial ties within a framework of green, inclusive, and competitive development.


Speakers included Philippa Jones; Izabella Teixeira, Member of CEBRI’s International Advisory Board; Larissa Wachholz; Monica Sodré, Senior Fellow at CEBRI and Executive Director at Meridiana; Anicia Pio, Manager of the Sustainable Development Department at FIESP; and Isabella Ávila, Project Coordinator at CEBRI’s Geopolitics Program.
