  • 29 february 2024

Alongside the recent economic growth, Malaysia has become a key player among Southeast Asian countries. In its relations with Brazil, the country stands out as one of the main trading partners in Asia. Besides being an important market for Brazilian agribusiness, there are also significant Malaysian investments in the oil and gas sectors in Brazil.

In this context, the Founder of IDEAS The Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs, His Royal Highness Tunku Zain Al-'Abidin ibni Tuanku Mariz, commented during the event promoted by CEBRI, in partnership with the Brazilian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, "Understanding Malaysia: economy, politics, and positioning in the global reality," that "this is an exciting time for the bilateral partnership between Brazil and Malaysia."

Moderated by Ambassador Marcos Caramuru, the initiative aimed to gain a deeper understanding of Malaysia, touching upon topics such as history, trade economy, and geopolitics, while exploring the dynamics of the relationship between the two countries and evaluating prospects for future collaboration.

During the conversation, the importance of think tanks was also highlighted, especially in Malaysia's current democratic context. At the end, Ambassador Caramuru emphasized Brazil's role in continuing its efforts to get to know the country better, aiming to strengthen their bilateral relationship during the "new chapter in Malaysia's political history."
