The CEBRI 2022 Award honors personalities who contribute to relevant themes for Brazil's agenda and international projection

The Brazilian Center for International Relations (CEBRI) will hold on Friday (7/15), starting at 10am, in Rio de Janeiro, the CEBRI 2022 Awards. This edition will honor environmental activist, photographer and film producer Lélia Wanick Salgado and photographer Sebastião Salgado in the Sustainability category; the GloboNews International editor, Marcelo Lins, in the Journalism category; Roberto Schaeffer, in the Academic category; International Relations specialist, Tatiana Prazeres, in the Foreign Trade category; and businessman Armando Klabin and sociologist Anna Jaguaribe in memoriam.

"Brazil is a country of great diversity and riches, not only in forests and natural resources, but also in people who make a difference and positively project the country abroad. One of CEBRI's objectives with the award is for Brazil to see the world and for the world to see Brazil more clearly, aside from, of course, recognizing Brazilians who stand out for their contribution to the international agenda on diverse fronts," says Ambassador Marcos Azambuja, CEBRI's Trustee Emeritus.

In addition to Marcos Azambuja, the award ceremony will be attended by the Chairman of CEBRI's Board of Trustees, José Pio Borges, CEBRI's CEO, Julia Dias Leite, and CEBRI's Trustees Clarissa Lins, José Alfredo Graça Lima, Tomas Zinner and Izabella Teixeira. During the award ceremony, the photographers Sebastião Salgado and Léia Wanick Salgado will talk about the Amazon exhibition, which opens on July 19th, in Rio, at Museu do Amanhã (Museum of Tomorrow).

The Amazon is a biome that occupies almost half of the national territory and its area includes around 300 ethnic groups. From the 1980s until 2019, Sebastião Salgado took photographs of the Amazon's waters, land, and sky, contributing to the international projection of the themes of environment and sustainability.

About the CEBRI Award:

Created in 2008, the CEBRI Award honors, every two years, personalities who distinguish themselves in areas and themes relevant to Brazil's international agenda. Initially, it was restricted to the areas of business and academia. In 2018, the journalistic category was created. In this edition, CEBRI started to also grant awards in the categories of Sustainability and Foreign Trade. Among the honorees in previous editions are journalist Fernando Gabeira, former Ambassador Rubens Ricupero, sociologist and immortal Hélio Jaguaribe, banker Roberto Setúbal, academic Edmar Bacha, one of CEBRI's founders and former Ambassador Walther Moreira Salles, amongst others.
