Saudi Arabia vs Iran - The Dispute for Regional Hegemony

In this class, professor Najad Khouri details one of the main ongoing regional disputes in contemporary times, the tension between Saudi Arabia and Iran for the position of regional hegemony. Addressing history and culture of both, a history of the strategic alliance between security and oil, relations with the United States and China and important events for the region such as the Iranian Revolution (1979), the Iran-Iraq War (1980-1988), the Gulf War (1990), the War on Terror (2001) and the Invasion of Iraq (2003), the class also addressed contemporary themes, such as the issue of Iranian nuclear program.
