The Prospects for the Multilateral Trading System

july 13th, 2021

The webinar "The Prospects for the Multilateral Trading System" is part of a research project of CEBRI's Multilateralism Program, with sponsorship from the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. The event is being organized in partnership with CEBRI's International Trade and Economy Program.

Some questions that will be addressed in this webinar are: How do the WTO and its members respond to the challenges/difficulties associated with the dispute over regulatory and technology frameworks among major economies?
What are the prospects for success in multilateral and cluster negotiations in areas such as e-commerce, investment facilitation, domestic regulation in services, gender, and sustainability?

Would the difficulties in advancing negotiations at the multilateral level and new agreements such as the RCEP (Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership) point to a reduction of the WTO's role? What are the prospects for the 12th Ministerial Conference, which will take place later this year?
