Roundtable | Backstage of the Mercosur-EU Trade Agreement

September 06, 2019

Mesa Redonda: "Bastidores do Acordo Comercial Mercosul-União Europeia"

The path taken to structure the Mercosur-European Union agreement and its prospects for implementation were the subject of a presentation made by the Secretary of Foreign Trade of the Special Secretariat for Foreign Trade and International Affairs, Lucas Ferraz, at the round table hosted by CEBRI on the 6th of September.

The Secretary highlighted advances such as the integration of Brazilian industry into global supply chains and gains in other sectors of the economy. He also cited the harmonious view among Esplanade Ministries about the agreement's common interests and the challenges of dealing with lasting negotiations. "Often, in a negotiation that has lasted 20 years, you need to look for the origin of concepts that had already crystallized in order to understand the new possibilities for evolution," he said. The roundtable was attended by the Senior Fellow of CEBRI, Ricardo Sennes, who mediated the debate.
